Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Testing

Proof of English Language Ability

To be eligible to apply to our program, all applicants must show proof of advanced English language ability. This can only be done by showing proof of having taken a CLB test and achieving a minimum overall Benchmark score of 8.

Note: applicants will be given priority if they have achieved Benchmark 8 in all 4 testing areas: speaking, listening, writing, and reading. If you have an overall score of 8 and one area is a 7, we will consider your application after other applicants if space permits.

CLB testing is also used to determine your level for Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC).

More information about the CLB test can be found on the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks website or by reviewing the  CLB benchmark guide.

Permanent Residents, Landed Immigrants and Convention Refugees are eligible for a free CLB language assessment through the YMCA, Centre for Education and Training, Welcome Centres and other settlement agencies that provide the service.
